As this is our first time hosting the Writer’s Academy, this structure will not be carved in stone, and we will adjust as people’s needs shift over the course of the year. All participants will have their own projects. Some will start from scratch. Others are already in the process of editing their materials, rewriting, and launching their book. Some of you may have more than one project you want to work on. That’s great!

  1. January. We will hold our first monthly meeting with a guest speaker. Our monthly meetings will be
held on the first Tuesday of the month (unless the group decides to move this meeting to a different
day because of holidays and group needs). This meeting will last 1.5 hours with networking to follow. This meeting will include an external speaker. We have set time as 5:30 pm – 7 pm Mountain Time.Everything will be virtual. In this first meeting, Gail Rubin will present a short session on how to give feedback. We will have another Gail Larsen from Santa Fe who will speak to us on Finding Your Heart in Your Message. Each meeting will also include a few participants being coached by the speaker. In this first session, we will each announce our goals. What do we hope to complete in 2023?
  2. The 2nd and 3rd meetings each month will be Mastermind groups, lasting for approximately 1 hour. They will be on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm Mountain Time. Think of these groups as Accountability sessions. We will help each other accomplish our goals. We can agree to extra calls as requested that can be structured as one-on-ones. We may do such things as agreeing to call someone
or text them to make sure they are meeting their goals.
  3. We are sensitive to time. So, meetings will be focused. We’ll manage time by the clock.
  4. Anyone can bring in questions and receive answers from the entire group. Participants will also be encouraged to submit their written work or ideas prior to the meeting itself so the rest of the group can read and give feedback.
  5. In these 2nd and 3rd meetings in the month of January, we will encourage everyone to set a schedule for the rest of the year.
  6. February. We will look at the topic of making your book focus on a niche. What is your niche, and how can you narrow your topic to speak to this niche? The additional sessions are described on the website at https://nsanm.org/new-writers-academy/
